The Association of Shalaki is National association of surgeons practitioners and academicians and Post graduate students of Shalakyatantara in Indian system of medicine dealing with Ophthalmology, ENT and Dentistry established in 2004.

Since 3000 B.C in the era of great Acharyas and father of surgery Shushrutacharya were known to perform complex surgeries like cataract surgery (mentioned as Linganash in ancient texts) and nose reconstruction surgeries its procedures and instruments are mentioned in Shushrutsanhita.

In modern era some institutes and graduates and post graduates of Indian system of medicine were doing treatment of EYE and Ear Nose Throat and dentistry known as Shalakyatantra in ancient texts with Ayurvedic treatment. Many institutes were performing surgical work in ophthalmology like cataract surgeries and tonsillectomies and other surgeries in ENT since 1980s. One of the surgeons of that era Hon. Dr. Dilip Puranik had a thought of an association of these people working in the field of Shalakyatantra on national level. Objective of this association was to provide a platform for practitioners surgeons and academicians of Shalakyatantra to present their work and spread it to budding shalakies i.e. students of shalakyatantra. With this thought Hon. Dr. D.P. Puranik started this association in 2004 along with stalwarts of Shalakyatantra of that time.

The Association of Shalaki (TAS) was established in 2004 with this motive of providing one single registered association of post graduates of Shalakyatantra on national level which can represent for Shalakies and also fight for medico legal rights of practitioners, academicians and students of Shalakyatantra in Indian system of medicine.

Since 2004 Association has grown up to more than 1000 registered members across India. And still registering members day by day and year after year.
